The Mormon Influences On Masonic Temples

One of the best places for organizational meetings and conferences is the Manitoba Legislative Building or the Manitoba Parliament Building located in Winnipeg. It was designed and constructed by Henry Boddington and Frank Worthington Simon (1863-1933), along with skilled craftsmen and assistants. According to Frank Albo, one of the researchers of the University of Winnipeg, the measurements of the legislative building and the ancient Solomon room were all exact. The visitors might feel and see the sacred room if they choose to visit this building. Along with the room was the famous Golden Boy, a gold statue with bronze as a covering. It was based on the style of some ancient Roman and Greek Gods such as Mercury and Hermes.

One of the popular symbols in the MLB is the Golden Boy statue with a 17 foot bronze covered by real gold. Some people interpreted this as a symbol for alchemy and philosophy; the two areas wherein Hermes have been known for. Hermes was a Masonic scholar who authored the Masonic initiatory rituals and a father of alchemy and wisdom. Nearly half of the MLB symbols were based on his character. The statue was a sign for prosperity and wisdom because he held various crops such as wheat and minerals while a torch on the other hand.

The history of the Manitoba Legislative Building has been started in 1911. It was a period wherein the Manitoba Government publicized an architectural competition to all designers/architects, and a grand prize of $10,000 was offered for the best designs of the sacred building. Among 67 designs, one former student at the Ecole des Beaux- Arts, Frank Worthington Simon won because of his best designs and impressive sketch. The building construction began in 1913, but the progress has been interrupted because one contractor stolen some materials to build his own house. However, on July 15, 1920, Sir James Aikins and the Lieutenant-Governor of the Manitoba performed the 50th province's anniversary date and celebrations.

The North side of the building, above the six central columns, is the principal area of figures. In the left, the visitors can easily see the Indolent man, with a half-kneeling woman. Another is the European Goddess leading a bull that symbolizes immigration and heritage. The figure of a man, child and woman that represents colonization of the land is located on the right part of the building. The Lady Manitoba is seated in the center with sun rays behind her. Next to the woman is a muscular structure with a team of horses and a plough plowing the soil. Lastly, visitors can easily look at a figure with two entwined female that represents the Red and Assiniboine Rivers.

The visitors may need to pass the Grand Staircase first before entering the hall. The path has 20.3 m or 66.6 feet on each side, which represents the number 666. The staircase is composed of 13 steps and veined Carrara Marble, the finest marble in the whole world. The structure used a bison to guard the temple, and also to represent the symbol of the province. The faces of Medusa and Athena are located in the central entrance to symbolize democracy and protection. Other figurines and murals are located inside the building such as the in the areas of The Pool of the Black Star, Lieutenant- Governor Room, the Legislative Room and Rotunda.
