Facts About An Egalitarian Church

By Annabelle Holman

Whether you admit it or not, there is discrimination everywhere you go. Skin color, race, socio economic status, educational background and age often surfaces when talking about people. However, most cases involve gender differences, and females are the ones not getting their rightful recognition.

This could be because the society was made to understand that men have the authority ever since the world was created. In offices, in the home, even in churches, males mostly occupy the higher echelons of power. Yet, there is this one type that does not look at genders at all, the egalitarian church in Denver.

Men and women is equal, this is the guiding principle of an egalitarian church. It shows just that by giving people equal chances to hold important positions in the church. By doing so, it recognizes both the capabilities of males and females to lead and enlighten people.

Therefore, these churches choose their leaders based on their ability to lead people, not because of their gender. Because they believe that all people are equal before God, there should never be limitations as to what each can do in the church, in the home and in the society. As long as one can do it, then he or she may do it without limits.

If one cannot do what he is asked to do, there will be others who can. If a man cannot do this, then maybe a woman can. There are just some areas that women do better in and men should learn to respect that not everything can be done with their muscles.

Taking advantage of what both genders can contribute is how the egalitarian church strives to do. It is one way of encouraging equality in that both are given equal rights to do what they are gifted to do. If there are areas where men do better, there are also areas where women do best. If men will do the building, women can certainly do the designing.

However, critics say that males and females were born with distinct roles and egalitarians should understand that fulfilling those roles would not mean that they are superior or inferior to each other. A wife at home taking care of the baby should never be inferior to her husband working at the local carpenter shop. They are both doing what they can to live a decent life. What they are doing is different but they still share fairly of the responsibility.

Equality between couples in handling family life often comes out as an issue for some people. The society has molded males to take over his family while his wife does the backing up. However, most of the marriages like that do not usually takes on a happy ever after. When the husband and wife is in mutual understanding with each other, they live in harmony and peace.

Males and females were not created to pull each other down. They were created to be at a balance with one another, making sure that what one does can do the other good. With that kind of mentality, the society can now really move forward.
