This Is Rotary: Rotary International

Rotary International is a community service club that attempts to bring together commercial leaders and professionals in an effort to promote better relationships, business practices and great support for the health and growth of the community. People who become members must adhere to strict standards due to the fact that the duty of service much greater than the individual and his or her wants. This organization is a secular one, which means that members and applicants will not be discriminated against as the result of gender, age, race or religion.

To be come a member of Rotary normally requires a sponsor, however anyone interested in joining should contact their local club. Membership is open to all interested parties who have something to contribute. It is a non-religious, non-political and multi-ethnic organization and welcomes men and women who want to make a difference to anyone anywhere in the world.

There are currently more than 1.2 million Rotarian's across the world. People who are a part of these clubs frequently attend social functions, which are typically held on a weekly basis. These are usually simple lunches, dinners or breakfast meetings at which activities and goals for the club are reviewed. These events can take place in public venues but they are more commonly held at lodges. Rotarian's offer scholarships and exchanges, programs to promote literacy and many other activities and resources for enriching the community.

Members value and promote high ethical standards and these are promoted in all personal and professional endeavors. This is the way in which group participants promote peace and the well-being of the community. They additionally value jobs or professionals that are useful to others.

Promoting increased international understanding is something else that Rotarian's do as well as increased unity and peace. They can do this through their massive, worldwide networks of professionals who hold memberships in different organization chapters. Each member is expected to hold the same service ideals.

Evanston, Illinois is home to the Rotary International headquarters. This group was found in 1905 and presently has numerous branches in various countries across the globe and many official languages. The club founder was Paul P. Harris.
